Recently,
a client came to us with a very special request for a new kitchen. They
had just toured Tuscany Italy and seen many "old world" style
kitchens. They wanted to bring that same warmth and openness to their own
home and had been searching for the right contractor to pull the design
together. They had talked with several local design centers and remodeling
firms, but none could offer true one-stop shopping. Other companies wanted
to subcontract out various pieces of the work, and given the extensive and
complex nature of the project, this was not desirable. Only CCB could offer
a complete solution and still provide the independence, control, and customization
that the client was looking for. With our own in-house cabinet shop, we
could easily accommodate the unique touches needed for this kitchen. In
addition to the custom cabinets, we handled all of the plumbing, drywall,
electrical, flooring, and tile work that this impressive kitchen required.
It is truly one-of-a-kind and we are happy to share the results with you below.
|

Project start: A tiny galley-style kitchen that was small, outdated,
and provided no room for entertaining |

The soffit above the cabinets on the left contained all the upstairs plumbing,
in addition to existing electric wiring. All of this had to be relocated.
The pantry had to be removed as well. |

The bathroom was relocated to another part of the house on main level, as
was the closet. These steps allowed the kitchen size to almost double! CCB
did all this work, in addition to the kitchen remodel |

Bathroom and closet are now relocated. Build out work continues in the kitchen
area |

Here we're building the new soffit and rerouting the plumbing into it. |

New soffit and walls complete. |

Build out is complete. The kitchen is ready for the new hardwood flooring |

Hardwood floors installed. The flooring used for this project is a Brazilian
Tigerwood. It's extremely hard and durable, perfect for a kitchen. Note
that the room is still usable. The client desired that the kitchen still
be functioning during all phases of the project. |

While the kitchen build out was being completed, the cabinet creation could
begin. Seen here is a corner cabinet with articulating doors |

Corner cabinet again. Note the exclusive "Yanik Drawers" that
allow for maximum drawer size. The face is actually cut along the edge to
ensure clearance of the handle on the other drawer (see below for more pictures
of this) |

The center island almost near completion. The legs were hand-lathed in our
shop based on a picture provided by the client. |

Wall cabinets being clamped and glued |

Pantry with large pull out drawers. These drawers (and every other cabinet
piece) are 100% hardwood. No MDF or particle board here! |

Another view of the pantry. This piece was almost 7 feet tall! |

Cabinet of drawers. Note the dove tail joints on each drawer. Our meticulous
and exacting cabinet building techniques will ensure many years of quality
service. |

Pantry complete with doors on. This unit is now ready for finishing |

It may not look like much right now, but this unassuming slab of walnut
will soon become an island top! |

Island top sanded and edge work done. Note another custom touch: the client
wanted the edge to match the granite countertop edge. |

Island top fitted and legs done. Ready for finishing! |

This island top is actually "stained" with a salad-bowl finish.
This is 100% non-toxic and also allows for easy touch-ups down the road
when it gets nicked or scuffed. |

Marty Yanik, owner of CCB, personally manages every custom cabinet installation
to ensure 100% correct fit and finish. |

Wall cabinets being hung |

Wall cabinets hung and ready for door installation |

Base cabinets being installed. |

With the base cabinets done, granite countertops could be installed. This
was the only item that CCB didn't install, however, we were onsite during
the installation to ensure the work done by the contractor met our high
standards!
|

A tile backsplash was installed after the granite work was done. The appliances
include 2 30" Thermador ovens, a 36" Wolf cooktop, and a huge
42" Kitchen Aid refrigerator. |

A wine cubby, as requested by the client. Also shown in the middle of this
picture is a custom built panel for the Asko tall tub dishwasher. Next to
that, an undermount sink by American Standard fits perfectly into the 30"
base cabinet. The oil-rubbed bronze faucets are by Delta. |

A great view of the custom built island with a walnut top. The client had
seen similar islands in Italy and wanted to have that same look in their
kitchen. Note that the middle drawer pull is a false front and actually
pulls out to reveal an electrical outlet. This was another custom request
by the client that we could easily accommodate! |

The copper range hood was handbuilt by a coppersmith in Pennsylvania. It
is vented through the wall and out the side of the house. The client does
a lot of entertaining and so a wall mounted "pot filler" was installed.
This makes filling those big pots simple and easy! The Italian-inspired
4"x4" tile inserts are aged bronze and were mounted during the
tile installation. The large 1'x1' insert over the range depicts a "vinosanto"
wine trellis in aged bronze. |

The "Yanik Drawer" seen here looks like a typical drawer front... |

...but when opened, it's actually cut to allow clearance for the opposing
door handle. This allows a full size drawer to be used and maximizes available
space. This drawer design is CCB exclusive!
